Manage Domain Forwarding in Domain Control Panel

December 7th, 2011  in Domain Name No Comments »

Customers who purchase domain in HostEase may want to know how they can make domain forwarding. Now I will share this function with you all.

First, let’s log into your domain control panel via http://dcp.hostease.com. Choose the domain you want to manage if you have multiple domains here . If this is the first time for you to login to this panel, you should click “Forget password”. Then the system will send a temporary password to you. But make sure you modify this password to a new one in dcp later because this is a temporary password and it will expire in 3days.

Then choose the domain that needs to be forwarded and click the button named “Manage Domain Forwarding” under “Domain Forwarding”. You can make domain forwarding here. Destination means the website that you wish to forward requests for your domain. Let’s take domain “hostease.com” for example. If we want to forward this domain to blog.hostease.com in its domain control panel, we choose http and fill in blog.hostease.com on the right blank below “Destination” and click “Save” button. The url http://hostease.com will be redirected to http://blog.hostease.com when someone try to access hostease.com after this. Please note that two A record for your domain with and without www will be generated at this time. These two domains will be pointed to 173.193.106.10——the default forwarding DNS server’s address.

You will also see several options below: URL Masking / Stealth Redirection / URL Hiding、Sub Domain Forwarding and Path Forwarding. Enabling URL masking will ensure that your visitors see the source URL and not the destination URL. Enabling Sub Domain Forwarding will forward a request made to http://subdomain.hostease.com to http://yourdestinationurl/subdomain/Enabling Path Forwarding will forward requests made to http://hostease.com/some/path to http://yourdestinationurl/some/path.

To sum up, I think now you will know how to manage domain forwarding clearly. When you want to achieve this function, please take this passage as a reference.

Manage Your Domain Name in HostEase

February 7th, 2011  in Domain Name 19 Comments »

In this article, I will share how to manage your domain name in HostEase with you. In other words, you will know how to avoid some mistakes that you might make on domain management in HostEase.

Please consider the following three ways of managing your domain.

1. Purchasing hosting and the domain name separately

Imagine that you purchased hosting from HostEase, while the domain name was registered from a different domain registrar. And you haven’t changed the NS to HostEase’s. In this circumstance, all the records which might be made in your cPanel are invalid. You need to log in your cPanel to mange your hosting, and log in your domain control panel to mange your domain records. Namely, you have to log into at least two different control panels to maintain your site. But we always recommend you to change your ns to HostEase’s if possible. Then you can manage domain records in cPanel directly.

2. Purchasing hosting and the domain name together from HostEase

If you’re just looking to get a helpful web site up fast, you probably don’t want to spend your time shopping around for hosting or domain name. Fortunately, HostEase allows you to purchase hosting at the same time that you purchase your domain name. Not only does this represent the best deal for consumers, but it also offers the most convenience. You’ll be able to manage and pay for both in one place, and also can save money using the latest coupon code. If you plan to purchase hosting and the domain name separately, you wouldn’t be able to enjoy the convenience as the situation mentioned before. When you purchase both at the same time from HostEase, you can get access to automated domain manage service. But please keep one thing in mind that your domain name will not be visible on the internet instantly. This process is called propagation and can take up to 48 hours.

3. Purchasing only the domain name from HostEase

After purchasing the domain name from HostEase, please log into http://dcp.hostease.com to manage your domain. This is HostEase Domain Interface, where you can mange your domain name. And if it is the first time you try to log in, please click the button “Forgot Password” to get a new password. Please note one thing that the login password is different from the login password of manage.hostease.com. And what’s more, the password sent to you is a temporary one, you should change it within three days. Or it will be invalid then. As mentioned above, please keep one thing in mind that your domain name will not be visible on the internet instantly. This process is called propagation and can take up to 48 hours. The last thing to remind you is that: Please update the ns to DCP’s ns:hostease.earth.orderbox-dns.com, hostease.mars.orderbox-dns.com, hostease.mercury.orderbox-dns.com, hostease.venus.orderbox-dns.com if you want to use this domain system for your domain records.

301 Redirect a Useful Method

February 1st, 2011  in Domain Name 13 Comments »

Many webmasters may have used 301 Redirect which is regarded as one of the most useful function on website management. It’s the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for redirection. If you want to redirect one site or page to another, 301 Redirect must be a safe way. The code “301″ has its specific meaning, which is interpreted as “permanently”. Obviously 301 redirect is used to indicate that a page has permanently moved.

Suppose I have a several years old domain with high rank and a lot of quality back links. Now, I want to change the old domain name to a new one that I just registered. If I just change the domain name without any other steps, all I have done before will be wasted. So how to automatically redirect to a new domain when visitors link to the old domain? I think 301 Redirect can do me much favor. If I create a 301 redirect from old domain to new domain, the outcome would be different. That is because all valuable traffic will be transferred to the new domain.

How to create a 301 redirect? In CPanel, there is a button named Redirects which is the entrance for creating 301 redirects, maybe it’s the easiest way on redirection in HostEase’s server. Generally, we need choose 301 or 302 when we create Redirect. Comparing with 301, the code “302” means “temporary”.

In addition to this way, adding codes in .htaccess file in web server is another way to implement 301 Redirect. The codes are shown as following.

CODE:
Redirect 301 /old.html http://www.domain.com/new.html

These codes show that once someone visits the old.html page, it will automatically be redirected to new.html page. Please note the format; the former path is relative while the later is absolute. Don’t confuse this two.

Another way is to use Mod_Rewrite for 301 Redirect. Sometimes, you may want to change a new domain for your website. However, you don’t want to waste the traffic and PR value of your old domain. Then you can use this way to make it in .htaccess file.In this way, you can make full use of the traffic and PR value of your old domain so that it’s not wasted.

CODE:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^olddomain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]

These codes make all traffic to olddomain.com be redirected to newdomain.com. That’s so helpful for site’s rank.

It’s convenient to create 301 redirects on our server, dear friends, do you want to have a try?

Domain Transfer Services with respect to HostEase.com

January 28th, 2011  in Domain Name 13 Comments »

This article shows you respectively the process of transferring a domain name to HostEase as well as transferring a domain name away from HostEase.com.

Prior to starting Transfer, a few simple things below should be confirmed for both processes to make sure Transfer goes smoothly.

1. If the domain name you are trying to Transfer was registered less than 60 days ago , the request will get rejected by the Registry->Registrar itself.

2. A domain name can not be transferred to another Registrar within 60 days of a previous Transfer.

3. If Theft Protection / Lock / Suspension has been applied on->to your domain name at the Current Registrar, then a Transfer for that domain name to another Registrar will not be allowed. You will first disable Theft Protection / Lock / Suspension for the domain name then proceed with a Transfer.

Now, let’s go to the first situation during Transfer, showing detailed steps of having your domain transferred to HostEase.com LLC.

Firstly, as the precondition mentioned above, have your domain unlocked in the current registrar and get the Domain Secret (i.e. EPP code).

Secondly, place a transfer request with HostEase.com LLC by signing up for a new account at Client Manage Portal, or logging in with a registered one. Then click on icon labeled “Order” on the left, you will get a navigation bar displayed on the right. If you want to purchase hosting along with transferring domain to HostEase.com LLC, just select one web hosting solution, you will be redirected to Product Configuration page, click the second option “I want to transfer my domain to HostEase”, meanwhile fill domain in the blank with the right extension, go ahead naturally.

Alternatively, you only need Transfer domain but no hosting, what you need to do is just clicking the option” Transfer Domain” on navigation bar, fill in EPP code and set up the Name Server as you like.(You’d better use default ones:ns1.hostease.com&ns2.hostease.com) . Proceed to Checkout, renew for at least one year per domain name in HostEase.com LLC.

Fourthly, after have placed the Transfer Order, the Administrative Contact for the domain name will receive an e-mail from HostEase.com LLC for the Transfer Authorization process, which needs to be approved in 5 business days.

Note:
If the Administrative Contact does not approve the Transfer within 5 days, it is assumed that the Admin Contact does not wish (for) the Transfer to complete and the Order is deleted in our system.

The fifth step/Fifthly, Once the mail has been approved by the Administrative Contact, the Current Registrar will be notified regarding the same. The Current Registrar will send an e-mail to the Registrant and/or the Administrative Contact of the concerned domain name to confirm that they wish to Transfer their domain name. If the Transfer is not denied by either the Registrant or the Administrative Contact or the Current Registrar, the domain name will be transferred to you under HostEase.com LLC in the next 6 days.

Of course, the system would set a new Domain Secret for such a domain name Once the domain having an associated Domain Secret is transferred to HostEase.com LLC from another Registrar .This process is implemented from a security perspective, but domain with extension of EU and UK are not included.

Except the situations above, in case that you have bulk domains transferred to HostEase.com LLC,
Bulk Transfer interface is available to you on manage client portal, you may place a transfer request for multiple domain names simultaneously.

Then, let’s talk abut another situation, transferring domain away from HostEase.com LLC.

(Before proceeding with the Transfer, you also need to confirm a few simple things listed at the very start of this article with the Registrar of your choice to check whether your domain name can be transferred.
You may have got the system (will) automatically enabled “Theft Protection” for domain name once it is transferred to HostEase.com LLC from another registrar, That means HostEase will reject the transfer of any domain name unless has “Theft Protection” disabled. If you are not sure whether you have a theft protection, view the Theft Protection of your domain name.
To disable a theft protection of domain registered with HostEase.com LLC then get domain secret, do as follows:

1.Login to your domain control panel with correct username and password, search for the domain name and proceed to the Order details view.

2.Click the Theft Protection link, and then disable it.

3.Locate the field of “Domain Secret”, click on and get it.

Once you have determined whether a domain name can be transferred, you need to apply for the Transfer at the Registrar of your choice. We would receive intimation later about this Transfer on the condition that you have confirmed the Transfer with the New/Gaining Registrar. By the same token, an email would be sent from us to the Registrant and Administrative Contacts of the domain name, informing them that a request for Transfer of this domain name has been placed with the New/Gaining Registrar. The domain name will get transferred to the New/Gaining Registrar, at the expiry of 6 days from you having approved the Transfer at the New Registrar, provided the Registrant or Administrative Contact does not cancel the Transfer.

If your transfer is rejected, go directly to http://support.hostease.com , we are available to you at any time. Especially you are planning to transfer domain not generic but with special extension.

The Best Strategy of Buying Expired Domains

October 27th, 2010  in Domain Name 7 Comments »

Nowadays more and more people have expressed interest in buying expired domains that is because expired domains have page rank for a period of time after the expiration date and it’s easy to catch page rank with an expired page rank domain. But what’s the best strategy of buying expired domains? There are several different options for it.

301 redirect the old domains to your existing domain
To use a 301 redirect the old domains to your existing domain that you have is the easiest and least time consuming option. This obviously works best if the expired domain and your other websites are related in some way and target similar keywords. The main benefit of a 301 redirection is that your website can be benefited from the value of the links pointing to the expired domain. But you’d better do some research to see what the anchor test of these links are and make sure they are related to your target keywords and the old site doesn’t have a penalty for shady link building, spamming etc.

Create a mini-site that links to your existing domain
This opinion requires a little more time and effort than a 301 redirection. You can set up a very simple website on the expired domain and have it linked to your primary domain. This option is good for exact-match domains for your targeted keywords, and the mini-site that you set up can also be used to experiment with viral content or promotional items that you don’t want to have it on your main website. Be careful when creating the mini-site because this option is very difficult and requires users have high level of technology.

Overhaul the old domain and operate it independently
The third option is the one which is the most time consuming but also has its benefits. It is to take the expired domain and create an entirely new website to operate with it. If you don’t have another website related to the expired domain this can be a great way to break into the area with some establish traffic and link. To operate the expired domain independently you could update the content on the old domain and sell the same products that you are selling on your current website. You’ll have to ensure that the old site doesn’t create duplicate content of your other websites or both web sites could potentially be harmed in the search engine ranking.

Any of these expired domain strategies can be very effective. Which strategy is best it depends on how much work and effort you can put into the expired domain and how the domain relates to the websites you have owned and operated. If you’re barely to maintain and optimize your current web site, maybe you just want to a 301 redirection. If you are more creative you can try to create a mini-site. If you are experienced at making money of various web sites, you’d probably do well with the third opinion. Making a careful choice of it could truly help you catch an excellent earning opportunity.

Should You Buy an Existing Domain Name?

July 28th, 2010  in Domain Name 212 Comments »

When you are thinking of buying a domain name for your business, have you taken an existing domain name into account as you know domains comes and goes these days and sometimes it can be quite difficult to find a completely new one of your desire? Whether buying an existing domain name a good choice comparing with registering a brand new domain? Here I will bring you the disadvantages and advantages of purchasing an existing domain name and hopefully help you make a right decision.

Advantages
I start from the advantages to searching for and purchasing an existing domain name. There are many reasons why an existing domain is welcomed for webmasters.

Firstly, you may expect a large amount of traffic that has previously flowed to that particular website. You can imagine that there are surely some customers of the older owner may not know that the domain name didn’t get renewed, so that they are of highly likely to visit that domain name after you buy the domain. In other ways, you can enjoy these traffic due to the hard effort of the previously owner. This could be an excellent beginning for your website to against totally no visitor.

Secondly, you may also benefits from the old owner who definitely pay their efforts in targeting keywords to ensure the domain name get listed higher at the search engine results page. In such cases, you domain name is search engine friendly and it will takes you less time and energy for SEO purpose.

Thirdly, the possibility of buying finding a short, catchy domain with the targeted keywords contained will be increased. As we all known, it is not an easy job to find a desired domain that is still available especially if your niche is quite competitive. Also due to the fact there are some domains owners buy these perfect domains simply as an investment, then short domain names are more likely to already be registered. Choosing the right domain name for your internet business enterprise becomes more challenging if you never take the existing domain names into account. Because it is not an easy job to find a good domain name that is still available you may be force to buy an existing domain name from the market.

An Disadvantage
However, if you have settled your mind for buying an existing domain, you should be aware of the potential pitfall. The major disadvantage of buying an existing domain name is that it may have been punished by the search engines for the inappropriate SEO tactics (or black hat techniques). If you are unfortunately enough and purchase domain of this kind, I would empathize. Under such circumstance, it is quite hard for your website to be get indexed again, which means even if you are going to invest a lot of money on promotion and SEO, you will receive no outcome absolutely.

To help you purchase a right existing domain to boost your business, below I have addressed some Dos & Don’ts. Hopefully, they will guide you to the right direction.

Dos:
•Search for the existing rankings of the domain name.
•Look into the existing link of the website. Are there internal page links?
•Think about the domain age and authority before buying.
•Think over carefully whether the content building and link building deserve what you are asked to pay for.
•Check out whether there are any penalties on the domain name.
•Analyze the incoming links to see whether they target your desired keywords.
•Figure out whether the backlinks are come from other sites that are also owned by the particular website owner. If this is the case, then it is very likely that these backlinks will be disappear very soon after you make the purchase.
•Check out the existing traffic of that website and make sure there is no cheat.
•Check out the age of the domains existing links.
•Look for authority news sites linking to the domain.

Don’ts:
•Do not buy an existing domain without taking its Google Page Rank into account.
•Do not buy an existing domain that only has low quality and spammy links.
•Do not simply focused on and pay a high investment on a keyword matching domain, and also remember not to go for hyphenated URL address.
•Do not buy an existing domain that has not been indexed by the major search engines.
•Do not buy an existing domain that is not in your niche, unless you will sell it in the future.
•It is not advised to build organic links with multiple domain purchases.

If you would like to get a brand new domain name, you can either:
1) Get one from web hosting companies(www.hostease.com) since many of them will offer you with free domains when you register their hosting solutions.
2) Get one from a separate domain name registering company.

Top Ten tips on How to Select Your Domain Name

April 22nd, 2010  in Domain Name 210 Comments »

After you have decided to give your business an online identity, the first step you will need to do is to register a domain name. A domain name is the address that people will enter in the browser to find your website. While selecting a domain name, there are many things that you need to keep in mind. Followings are some guidelines for you. With them, it is much easier than you think to get a great domain name.

Tips1: Keep your domain reflect your business

Most importantly, you need to make sure that your visitors are able to know about your business judging from your domain name. For instance, if you are going to provide information about online marketing, it would be no sense to select a domain name, such as “yourfavorite.com” as this has no relation with your website goals. You had better to go for a domain name that shows the visitors what your website is mainly about, domain name like “quickonlinetip.com” may sounds much better.

Tips2: Make sure that your domain name contains associated keywords

With the development of web technology, search engine optimization plays an increasing important role for your online business. One of the most important aspects of SEO is keyword research. To help your website index quickly on the top page of searching results, you need to make sure that your URL is SEO-friendly. The best way to accomplish this is via having relevant keywords or phrases within your domain name.

Tips3: Be sure that your domain name is catchy and easy to remember

With a myriad of website available over the internet, a domain name that is catchy and easy to remember will be conducive to your online business’s success. For example, it is very easy for the visitor to remember the name mentioned above, “quickonlinetip”, then it is of high likely that they will share the domain name and the information with other friends or colleagues, which will help you increase the number of the website visitors. Therefore, it could be considered as an ideal domain name for this particular niche.

Tips4: Choose a appropriate domain extension for your domain name

Domain extension is another concern when picking a domain for your online business. There are many domain extensions available for you to buy in the market. You may wonder which domain extension is the best one. Well, it depends. Every extension has its goal and meaning. For commercial purpose, most webmaster would like to choose .com extension. On the other hand, .edu extension will be suitable if you would like to create a educational website that contain tutorial or e-learning. As a general rule, look for .com first then go for other extension if it is not available as it is the one that comes into visitor’s brain.

Tip5: Do not use numbers in your domain name

What if you cannot get your desired domain name? One of the common practices to this question that many people do is try to add numbers to the domain. For instance, if you registered a domain like 4onlinetips.com since homebusiness.com has already been taken, then you may cause problems as visitors might mistakenly enter the address as “fouronlinetips.com” or “foronlinetips.com”. This could be a big confusion to your website audience.

Tip6: Do not use dashes or underscores in your domain name

Another solution you may think of for your already taken domain name is to add dash or underscores in your domain name. I am sorry to tell you that this should not be an ideal solution. You should notice that most visitors will be accustomed to using dash or underscores in a domain name. Even return visitors will also forget to enter these characters not to say people who are introduced to come to your website.

Tip7: Do not use abbreviations in your domain names

It is not recommended to use an acronym or an abbreviation of your company name as your domain name, except that your company is as famous as big enterprise, such as IBM. For most small online business, abbreviation will not helpful for you to build your company brand since it will be difficult for user to recognize and remember your website address.

Tip8: Do not use too long domain names

You are expecting your visitors to remember your long domain name, guidlinestohomebusiness.com? You are expecting too much. It is impossible for them to remember such a long name. The longer the domain name, the higher chances that your visitors will make a typo when entering the address into a web browser. You will not want to lose your potential traffic due to a long, difficulty-to-remember and complicated domain name, will you?

Tip9: Do not use other’s trademark in your domain name

You should never overlook this point as trademark infringement could lead you to legal disputations and cause disaster to your entire business. You have the obligation and the responsibility to make sure that your potential domain name doesn’t infringe on any registered trademarks.

Final tip, finding a great domain name that doesn’t already exist over the internet can be quite difficult. Once you have the idea to start your registering process, you had better created a list of a dozen or more potential domain names so that you will be able to find a satisfying one.

Will Change Domain Name Effect Search Engine Rank

January 17th, 2010  in Domain Name 1,090 Comments »

Sometimes, you may encounter such problem you have to get a new domain name for your website, while you’re worrying about losing the current rank in Google or other search engines. For example, you want to change your current hostease.com domain into a simpler and more catchy one such as host.com. However, the hostease.com has already established in Google and other search engines and even ranks high. Therefore, you may worry about if the rank of your website will drop after the domain name is changing.

Well, of course it will affect Google and other search engines rank. But if you can do it as follows, it will be the best way for you to keep the original rank of your site.

To relocate the site, you’d better follow these steps:

1.First of all, test the contents of the migration process of the entire site by moving a directory or sub domain. Then use the 301 redirect feature to redirect the original site to your new website. This method can be adopted by the search engines: your site has been permanently relocated.

2.Check whether your new site’s pages can appear in the search engine’s search results or not. If you are satisfied on the small-scale migration, you can move the entire site. Please do not redirect all the traffic of the old site pages to your new home page. Although this across-the-board redirection will avoid a 404 error, it can not provide a good user experience. Although the page-to-page redirect (each page of the old site are redirected to the corresponding page of the new site) will bring about a greater workload, but will also give you a more consistent user experience and clarity. If the web pages of the new site cannot exactly match the old one, we must at least ensure that each page of the old site should be redirected to a page with similar content on the new site.

3.If the domain name is changed because of website renaming or redesign, the migration can be divided into two phases: the first stage, move your web site; the second phase, start re-design. In doing so, you could not only control the user experience at every stage of the change in migration, but also make the entire process more smoothly. Change control to a minimum allows you to more easily identify and solve a variety of unforeseen circumstances.

4.Check your site’s internal and external links. Ideally you should contact each administrator of other sites which are linked to your site, so that they can link them to the corresponding page under your new domain name. You should also check and update all the internal links of your old site, so that they point to the new domain name. When you have the site ready for the new server, you can use a link checking tool to verify whether your new site links are all available. This is particularly important, if your original content included absolute links rather than relative links words.

5.In order to prevent confusion and chaos, you’d better continue to hold authority control of the domain name to the original website at least 180 days.

6.Add your new web site to the Webmaster Tools account and verify your ownership of the site. Create and submit a sitemap to show all the new web site URL, so that search engines will know your new site’s content is now available for crawl.

7.Finally, ensure that your new and old sites in the webmaster tools are verified, and check crawl errors regularly to ensure that the 301 redirect from the old site is working, at the same time the new site will not show the 404 error that we do not want to see.
